Pixatology, the Philippines’ first iPad development group, announced today the 2010 Pixatology iPad Challenge, a 7-month long application development contest for the new Apple iPad tablet. With P100,000 in cash prizes, Pixatology is working with the country’s top universities and invites all individuals or teams who are interested in launching their app on the hottest platform of the year.
Participants will also have a chance to:
- Win up to P100,000 in cash prizes
- Participate in free, breakthrough sessions to learn how to code powerful iPad applications
- Gain invaluable exposure to the revolutionary iPad (currently not for sale in the Philippines due to global demand)
- Secure an internship or career opportunities with IT companies
- Earn a share of profits for successfully marketed iPad applications on Apple's iTunes
Pixatology recognizes the potential of the Filipino development community to design
creative, unique and engaging applications. The group provides a chance for novice developers access to Apple's software development kit as wells as the tools, education,
experience and marketing support they need to develop and release apps for Apple-based devices like the iPad. Pixatology also acts as an incubator for promising apps and will offer revenue-sharing opportunities and cash advances to developers of outstanding applications.
"As of July 23, Apple is currently shipping iPads in only 19 countries, not including the
Philippines. Despite the limited launch, it took only a single month to sell one million iPads. To put it in perspective, it took 20 months to sell one million iPods. This device is
revolutionizing the mobile computing beyond anyone's expectations," said Tiger
Bitanga. "We're investing our time and resources to get the word out so Filipino developers can begin carving a niche in the international mobile app development scene."
From September 15, 2010 to October 16, 2010, Pixatology will be accepting app concept
submissions. Judges from the software development field will review all applications in
adherence to contest criteria. Once approved and during the contest proper, participants will have access to iPads during breakthrough monthly sessions, where they can check out and test their applications with guidance from a panel of experts. Winners will be announced on April 23, 2011.
